Calligraphy by Kanjuro Shibata Sendai

Shuuko (Longevity Tiger) is dedicated to the practice of kyudo, a form of traditional Japanese archery. We study the Heki-Ryu Bishu Chikurin-ha style of kyudo, as taught by Kanjuro Shibata XX, Sendai, and Kanjuro Shibata Sensei XXI, the current master of the Bishu Chikurin school.

Shuuko is the Amherst, MA at Hampshire College charter of Zenko International, an association of kyudo practice centers and groups. Students of the Five Colleges and members of the general public can join Shuuko for beginner level instruction or to continue their preexisting kyudo practice.

See announcements on our website for offerings of First Shot programs and special indoor long range practices.

Practice Throughout the Year

Shuuko Kyudojo offers practices twice per week (see our “Practice Schedule…” tab above for details) throughout the year for those who have completed First Shot or taken a beginner Kyudo course.  Those seeking beginning instruction are welcome to join at any time though we recommend taking advantage of “first shot” programs with us at Shuuko or anywhere in your area when offered.

All Are Welcome!

Everyone can practice at the Shuuko Kyudojo! Membership enrollment is ongoing and available to college students, kids and the general public.  No previous martial arts or archery experience is required.
